Benefits of registration

Registration as sight impaired or severely sight impaired (partially sighted or blind) is carried out by a consultant ophthalmologist and indicates that someone’s vision is below normal standards and provides financial and practical support.

If you are registered Social Services will arrange a visit to your home to discuss ways in which they can help you with daily living needs.

Registration is optional but there are some benefits available to visually impaired people whether or not they are registered. If you are registered severely sight impaired (blind) or sight impaired (partially sighted) you are entitled to these benefits.
