EUROMCONTACT releases 2013 contact lens market data report

EUROMCONTACT has released a 2013 market data report on sales of contact lenses and lens care products. The report ‘A Comparison of European Soft Contact Lens and Lens Care Markets in 2013‘, from Euromcontact is now available online.

In 2013, the market value of soft contact lenses (SCLs) at industry to eye care professionals (ECP) level grew by 3.6 per cent to €1.468 million. The market is defined as the 33 countries (six are clustered in three pairs) for which EUROMCONTACT collects data for Daily Disposables (DD), Weekly / Bi-Weekly and Monthly (W/B&M) and conventional soft (CS) CLs.

With a total of 13.5 per cent (+7.1 per cent) of the 15-64 years old population wearing CLs, Sweden is leading the penetration ranks, ahead of Norway (10.5 per cent, +9.5 per cent) and Denmark (10.5 per cent, +3.3 per cent)). Lowest among the eleven is Spain (3.4 per cent, -1.1 per cent).

Silicone Hydrogels (SiHy) now have a 78.2 per cent share of the value in the W/B&M segment (all corrections) and above 55 per cent in all of the reported eleven countries.
