News from LOCSU

News posted: 04/02/2015

  • Commissioning and Health media coverageOpen

LOCSU continues to publicise key messages about the benefits of community services out to target audiences in the health, commissioning and primary care sector media. Commissioning Review recently published a LOCSU story about the A&E crisis on its website news pages and Primary Care Today magazine also ran a post-NOC story in its Winter print edition about optical practices being vital treatment centres to reduce hospital care. Both titles are due to run further coverage in the coming weeks and we will link to this in future editions of LOCSU News.

  • New coaching and mentoring course launchedOpen

LOSCU is to launch a new, expert-accredited coaching and mentoring programme for LOCs.

The scheme, aimed primarily at LOC Officers and LOC Company Clinical Governance and Performance Leads, is designed to offer current leaders new skills and the opportunity for experienced leaders to pass down existing skills.

The six-month course, accredited by the UK’s largest management body, the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM), consists of online modules with two contact days. It leads to a Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring.

The course, which is fully funded by LOCSU, will run twice a year with start dates in May and November 2015. Depending on uptake, there may be scope for non-LOC officer participants who can demonstrate how their activities and skills will benefit the sector. LOCSU will meet the costs for the course and the qualification but delegates will be expected to meet their own costs to attend both contact days.

If you are interested in participating or want more information, email info@locsu.co.uk and identify your preferred starting date.

  • LOC websites and forumsOpen

LOCs participating in the website development project have now been sent their websites with local management user instructions. These websites have been developed for LOCs by LOCSU with developer, Trillium Systems, at no cost to LOCs. The LOCNET directory has also been updated: http://www.loc-net.org.uk/. Some of the LOC websites listed in this directory are provided by LOCSU/Trillium and hosted on this portal and others are provided for LOCs by third parties.

Website administrators of participating LOCs will shortly be sent further instructions on advanced features including registering LOC members for their LOC website. Registering LOC members for their LOC website will enable these members to access the LOC’s dedicated website forum. As part of this project, LOCSU/Trillium Systems are creating a global LOCNET forum for general LOC matters, as well as specialist sub-forums for particular roles such as LOC Chairs, LOC Company Directors and more. Watch this space in the coming weeks for information on the forums and how to register.
