Ensure you come to Bristol

ABDO is pleased to announce that it is extending further its successful format, for its 2010 conference and exhibition. This year's event will be held in Bristol, home to the loveable characters Wallace and Gromit, and for those of you who can remember slightly further back Morph, and the original home of the world's first chocolate bar created by Joseph Fry in the late 1720s.

Amongst its more notable Bristolians are Archibald Leach (Cary Grant), Kate Adie, Robin Cousins 1980 Olympic gold medal winner, The Wurzels, Acker Bilk, Johnny Ball, Sir Billy Butlin, Bananarama, Blackbeard, Anthony Head, Damian Hirst, Jeremy Irons, Banksy is a well-known yet pseudo-anonymous graffiti artist, Sir Michael Redgrave (1908-1985) actor born in Bristol and educated at Clifton College, Russ Conway popular pianist born in Bedminster, Bristol in 1927 as Trevor Stanford, and the mighty Matt Lucas and David Walliams (not forgetting Vicky Pollard!).

In November 2008 Bristol was crowned the best city in the UK and Ireland by the Academy of Urbanism and has been voted one of the most popular places to live in Britain and one of the top three most popular cities.

The chosen venue is Marriott Bristol City Centre, located moments from the recently opened shopping and entertainment venue, Cabot Circus. The Marriott City Centre is one of the South West's premier conference hotels. Just 1 hour and 42 minutes by train from Central London and with easy links to main motorway links and Bristol International Airport which serves several UK hubs, Bristol is an exciting, vibrant and revitalised city.

The weekend conference agenda will include the ABDO Annual General Meeting, to be held at 5.00pm on Saturday 9 October, followed in the evening by a drinks reception and the Transitions sponsored ABDO gala dinner.

There will be an opportunity to gain at least 7 CET points on Sunday 10 October; the conference programme will feature a range of CET approved activities, which will include a series of 'interactive' Spectech lectures, as well as Low Vision and Frame repairs workshops.

This year's exhibition will be smaller, more exclusive and will encompass one main exhibition hall easily located from hotel reception and it has already attracted a number of major sponsors, including many international names, which we feel proves the underlying enthusiastic support and commitment from our industry partners for what promises to be a continuation of a major new event in UK optics.

We guarantee therefore that you will see a continued dramatic difference to our previous events and we will be offering some excellent educational, business and social events - so ensure you come to Bristol!
