Registrant led CET

ABDO CET provides a variety of ways for members to access free-of-charge CET, from live events to printed articles and online learning. However, it may be that you would like to be more involved in hosting a live CET event in your local area with support from ABDO CET and the Go Local programme, or putting on your own peer review or discussion group session.

Contact lens opticians and optometrists have a statutory requirement for peer review/discussion and must complete at least one session in the three-year CET cycle. Dispensing opticians can also set up peer groups and gain points from peer discussion, and it is an enjoyable way to gain 3 interactive CET points.

Peer review and peer discussion differ slightly, but both are accepted for the contact lens and optometrist requirement. Any registrant can facilitate or lead a peer review/discussion group, and registrant-led peer review/discussion is a standard GOC CET modality.

Helping your colleagues

If you have had a particularly interesting, informative or helpful registrant-led peer review using your own original cases, or cases from your practice records, please help your colleagues by making the cases that you discussed available to other ABDO members.

Email the case(s) to the ABDO CET office to consider for inclusion in the peer discussion collection available to ABDO members. This will ensure a plentiful choice of cases for other members to download for their own use. No personal or business identification details will be included, and each case will be presented in the standard ABDO case format.
