Children’s eyecare

ABDO, Boots Opticians, the College and Specsavers have all come together to deliver a public awareness campaign on the importance of children receiving a full sight test before they start school, around three to four years old.

This campaign is also supported by Fight for Sight, FODO, International Association for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and OSA.

The campaign will be centred around World Sight Day on 8 October 2026 and be accompanied by cross channel promotion including press and broadcast opportunities.

We are making you aware of this public campaign early to enable you to build your confidence and refresh your knowledge, if needed, in working with children in your practice.

ABDO, the College of Optometrists and the OSA have partnered in a campaign in 2025 to raise awareness of the importance of children’s eye tests and better signposting for parents to children’s eye care professionals on the high street.

Nearly one in ten parents or carers (9%) will only take their child for their first visit to the optician if and when an eye health or vision issue arises, was revealed in the Children’s Eye Health Report.
