ABDO represents all dispensing opticians (DO)/contact lens opticians (CLO) throughout the UK, independently and part of the devolved nations’ representative’ bodies. This is a member benefit but isn’t always thought of as such. This function of ABDO, through our policy department, provides DOs/CLOs with a voice in shaping the future of eye health care and how the DO/CLO profession maintains and develops service delivery.
Last year we consulted with our members on various avenues for DOs/CLOs to develop in line with service/patient need and since then we have had further discussions with the devolved Governments on the opportunities available in each nation.
We will be hosting members engagement meetings throughout the UK, starting with this event in Wales following conversations we have had with Welsh government.
We are providing a 3-point CET discussion workshop – “Focusing on Refraction” as part of this meeting. This session explores the differences between a refraction and a dispensing experience and asks members to consider what refraction as a delegated function would look like in their practice.
Our President Clive Marchant will be in attendance with Debbie McGill, Head of Policy and Public Affairs, and Alex Webster, Head of CET.
Sali Davis and Lisa Gerson of Optometry Wales will also be in attendance.
