Social media resources are available to promote children’s eye health

ABDO EyecareFAQ has resources to help you to engage with your patients with mix of frequently asked questions, engaging graphics and simple jargon busters to ensure information is easy to understand and accessible to everyone.

During September, EyecareFAQ will also be focusing on contact lenses, amblyopia and lazy eye and food and eye health.

Here are some suggested social media posts for September:

  • What is amblyopia? If there is a big difference between your child’s eyes, one eye may do more work than the other. Over time, the less-used eye can become lazy, which is also known as amblyopia. This can be treated, but treatment is more effective the sooner it is started. Because of this, it is important to test children at a young age to see if they are at risk of squint or lazy eye. Children don’t have to be able to read to have a sight test.
  • When should I get my child’s eyes tested? Make sure that they are seen age of around three to four years old, well before they start school. Some eye conditions can be treated more effectively if they are discovered by the age of three.
  • Healthy eyes start with what’s on your plate. Include leafy greens, citrus fruits, and omega-3-rich foods in your diet for better vision. Eat a balanced diet to stay healthy: it has benefits for your whole body as well as your eyes. Being overweight can put you at risk of health problems including high blood pressure, stroke and Type 2 diabetes, which can have adverse effects on the eyes.
  • Never had an eye exam? Eye exams pick up eye disease before you notice any problems. Book an eye exam now.
