The late Kevin Thompson
The Association of Optometrists (AOP) has announced the passing of Kevin Thompson, describing the former AOP chair and councillor’s contribution to the optometry profession and the organisation as “nothing short of remarkable”.
Emma Spofforth, past AOP chair, remembered Kevin as “a person who did so very much for our profession behind the scenes and within the AOP during his extensive time as a councillor”.
She added: “We will miss the charismatic, quick-witted and endlessly good-humoured approach that Kevin brought to every meeting, conversation and challenge. We have lost an amazing advocate for our profession.”
During his career, Kevin owned more than 32 practices in the north east of England and in Scotland.
Earlier this year, he was presented with the AOP Peter Yeo Medal in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to optometry.
