Phil Hall appointed as ABDO examinations support officer

Phil Hall will be joining the Association of British Dispensing Opticians as examinations support officer from 5 February 2018. His role includes helping to maintain the standards of ABDO professional qualifications and examinations. Phil is a qualified dispensing optician and contact lens optician, and has managed various practice in the North East before moving to Specsavers Professional Training and Development. He has extensive experience in hosting training events and is familiar with dispensing, contact lens and MECS qualifications. He will also work with the examinations team on the education review, exams and student/supervisor support, regulatory and academic aspects of ABDO qualifications in the UK and overseas.

Phil says, “I’m really looking forward to joining ABDO and the immediate challenge ahead of preparing the new Examinations and Events Centre so that we can start to use that as soon as we’re able to for the practical exams. This centre will be a fantastic asset to ABDO and I feel it a real privilege to be part of it from the very beginning.”

He brings a wealth of experience and skill from his previous role in training and is very experienced in many aspects of dispensing and contact lens exams. It is a very exciting time for ABDO as we move into our own premises for practical exams and training courses, along with ensuring our qualifications are moving in the right direction to reflect modern practice. Phil will be a key member in helping ABDO deliver our vision and we look forward to him joining us in February.”
