WCSM Education Trust Bursary Scheme 2017 now open for applications

The WCSM Education Trust is again offering a bursary scheme for first year students starting on optical training courses in the UK. Last year’s pilot scheme was very successful, with over 240 applications for 25 bursaries. Bursaries were awarded to students from 10 different academic institutions across the UK and WCSM is hoping for wide distribution this year too.

This year’s scheme will again offer 25 bursaries of up to £1,000 each. Candidates must apply using the application form and should understand that this is a competitive process. Candidates are recommended to read the guidance notes before completing their form. All forms must be stamped by the department or Institution before submission to make sure that candidates who apply are actually registered on the course they have named on the form. A further check will be carried out that the student is participating as expected before payment of any bursary.

The statement of process confirms that there is no restriction by age, gender, region or course and all applications will be treated equally. The selection process will involve independent assessment by the trustees, all of whom are Liverymen of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers.

Applications can be accepted straight away from those who have been offered places on courses starting in autumn 2017. The closing date for receipt of applications is 5pm on Friday 6 October 2017.

If you need further information, please contact the Clerk, Mrs Helen Perkins, on 020 7236 2932 or clerk@spectaclemakers.com.
