EyecareFAQ: May

May sees two important awareness weeks for ABDO members to harness – Sun Awareness Week (11-17) and Myopia Awareness Week (18-24).

These are great opportunities to reach out to patients and educate them on the benefits of sunglasses and regular sight tests for children.

Throughout May, EyecareFAQ will be focusing on key eye health topics including keratoconus, your eyes in your 40s and beyond, and myopia.

We’ll use a mix of frequently asked questions, engaging graphics and simple jargon busters to ensure information is easy to understand and accessible to everyone.

Suggested social media posts for May:

  • Why should I wear sunglasses? Sunglasses protect your eyes from the harmful effects of UV light … and they can look great too!
  • Do my children need to wear sunglasses too? Children need to protect their eyes from UV just as much as adults do. Protect your child’s eyes with sunglasses that meet the relevant standards. Check the label or ask an optician for advice
  • If you’re wondering when to start getting your child’s eyes checked, do make sure that they are seen age of around three to four years old, well before they start school. Some eye conditions can be treated more effectively if they are discovered by the age of three
