Course Duration

It will take you  3 months to study for a Certificate.

Application deadlines and study start dates

Applications open on 4 January 2021 and close on the 9 April 2021.

Your study will commence on 1 May 2021.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal qualifications required. However, due to the nature of study we do recommend that all applicants have English at GCSE level 4 (grade C).

There is an expectation that the learner will already be a manager/leader (or working towards such a role) with the ability to apply the skills and experience learned during their qualification.

Course Structure

The course and assessments will be delivered via a Learning Management System (LMS) and as such will be 100% online. Learners will need access to a computer plus internet to complete the course.

There will also be optional workshops held at the ABDO National Resource Centre in Birmingham. These are not a requirement of the courses and will be advertised separately. There will be an additional cost for workshop attendance.

Cost

  • Certificate: £1,008.00 (inc VAT) for ABDO members (£1,112 inc VAT for non-members)

Cost includes all learning materials, tutor support, assessments, and affiliate membership of the Chartered Management Institute for the duration of the course.

You will pay the fees up front.

ABDO will offer easy payments to those individuals wanting this.

  • Certificate – £360 (inc VAT ) up front and then 2 monthly payments of £324 (inc VAT ABDO member) or £381 (inc VAT non-member). Monthly payments will commence in your first month of study.

The Management Essentials Certificate requires the completion of 3 units:

      • Developing, Managing and Leading Individuals and Teams to Achieve Success
      • Managing Performance
      • Managing the Customer Experience
    • 140-160 hours total learning carried out over 3 months.
    • Tutor support is provided
    • E-learning is utilised to remove the need for time away from work
    • Optional workshops are available

The Management & Leadership Diploma covers 8 key management and leadership areas:

  • Developing, Managing and Leading Individuals and Teams to Achieve Success
  • Managing Performance
  • Managing the Customer Experience
  • Principles of Developing a Skilled and Talented Workforce
  • Managing Quality and Continuous Improvement
  • Principles of Delivering Coaching and Mentoring
  • Managing Conflict
  • Managing Finance

 The Management Essentials Certificate covers the following 3 key areas:

  • Developing, Managing and Leading Individuals and Teams to Achieve Success
  • Managing Performance
  • Managing the Customer Experience

 The Continuing Improvement Certificate covers the following 3 key areas:

  • Principles of Developing a Skilled and Talented Workforce
  • Managing Quality and Continuous Improvement
  • Principles of Delivering Coaching and Mentoring

 The Growing Leader Certificate covers the following 3 key areas:

  • Managing Conflict
  • Managing Change
  • Managing Finance

 The Management & Leadership Diploma requires 400 hours total learning carried out over 12 months.

Each of the Certificates requires 140-160 hours total learning carried out over 3 months.

 E-learning or online learning refers to the idea of using online tools for learning.  Resources, assignments, quizzes and tutor support are all enabled via a Learning Management System (LMS). This means you will not have to travel at all for your studies.

 You may feel that the workshops will benefit you for your units of study and as such you can attend for an additional fee.

These workshops will also be open to people not studying the ABDO courses who will also pay the fee to attend.

 The courses will be run by the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO).

 

The course is suitable for people who are new to a management/leadership role as well as those who have been in such a role for a period of time.

The course ensures that learners have the knowledge and resources to perform their roles to the best of their abilities by formalising any previous informal learning as well as offering new facets of management and leadership.

Upon completion of the qualifications, learners will receive either the CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management & Leadership or the CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management & Leadership.

Successful learners who remain a member of CMI will also have fCMgr – Foundation Chartered Manager post-nominals after their name.
