Centenary charity challenge kicks off

Could you cycle – or walk – 100 kilometres or miles for ABDO’s chosen charity?

ABDO is calling on members to take on a fundraising challenge to mark 100 years of the profession in aid of registered charity, the ABDO Benevolent Fund.

“We are inviting members to think of creative ways to raise funds, whether in practice, at head office or individually,” said ABDO communications manager, Carol Smith, who has pledged to walk 100 miles during the month of July.

“You could walk, run or cycle 100km as a team, host a bake sale, or come up with an idea of your own. All money raised will go to the ABDO Benevolent Fund.”

ABDO Benevolent Fund Board of Trustees chair, Jill Umperley, said: “I am delighted that the Benevolent Fund has been selected as ABDO’s chosen charity for its centenary celebrations.

The Fund plays a vital role in supporting members facing difficult circumstances, providing assistance when it is needed most.

“Trustees carefully and compassionately consider every application to ensure assistance reaches those in genuine need,” Jill continued.

“The Trust often regularly receives heartfelt messages of gratitude from recipients, who describe the support provided as a lifeline during some of the most challenging periods of their lives.”

Alistair Bridge, ABDO CEO, commented: “As we celebrate 100 years of the profession, and the role that generations of ABDO members have played in supporting their patients, it is fitting that we are also raising funds for the ABDO Benevolent Fund, a registered charity which provides support for current and former members who are experiencing financial hardship.

“I encourage all ABDO staff and members to think about how they would like to get involved,” Alistair added.
