Focus on … OCT

Focus on OCT

Focus on OCT is the next step in ABDO’s clinical training. The event is designed to give DO and CLO members an opportunity to expand their clinical skills, and combines a pre-event webinar followed by a hands on practical training day at the NRC.

Participants will have the opportunity to refresh and expand their clinical knowledge as well as gaining hands on experience of image capture on a range of different OCT equipment and start to learn what are normal and abnormal OCT images. The course will help DOs introduce OCT to practices and patients and improve scan capture and handover to optometrists.

At these practical days participants will:

  • gain hands on-experience of image capture on a range of OCTs,
  • have a refresher of retinal anatomy,
  • begin to learn what are normal and abnormal OCT images.

With support from a range of experts and working in small groups it is an informative and vitally useful practical session for all dispensing opticians who wish to gain a better knowledge of OCT and its use.

Events take place at the National Resource Centre, supported by pre-event webinar

The cost is £130 which includes access to the webinar and the practical day. Places are limited due to the small group sizes so early booking is recommended. Up to 9 CET points will be available.

Email Max Halford, mhalford@abdo.org.uk, to put your name on the waiting list for the next session.

Notes

It is recommended that dispensing opticians revisit these pages on a regular basis to ensure that their knowledge is current and therefore the advice and guidance they give to patients is up to date and relevant.

ABDO provides regular CET/CPD to support members and this can be viewed on the ABDO website. There are regular features on both products and research in Dispensing Optics magazine.

ABDO does not endorse nor recommend OCT equipment. The information on these pages is to facilitate practitioners’ ability to have an informed discussion with patients and signpost practitioners who do wish to research the subject in more depth.
