BCLA CLEAR presbyopia: management with contact lenses and spectacles‘ is now available online open-access via the BCLA’s peer-reviewed journal, Contact Lens & Anterior Eye. Its authors include Professors Philip Morgan, Nathan Efron, Erics Papas and Nicola Carnt – as well as Dr Alicia Thompson, ABDO director of education, research and professional development, and Alex Webster, ABDO head of CPD.

Dr Thompson told DO Online: “I am delighted to have had the opportunity to contribute to such a relevant and comprehensive resource on the topic of presbyopia. With technological advances in design, coupled with the individual and varied visual demands of our patients’ lifestyles, it highlights the importance of conducting a visual task analysis on every patient which will often result in multiple solutions dispensed.”

Alex Webster added: “This has been a fantastic opportunity to work with respected academics from around the globe on a project that will enable eyecare practitioners to provide evidence-based care to their presbyopic patients. As highlighted in the paper conclusion, there is further work needed to support practitioners with evidence-based spectacle dispensing in the area of presbyopia, and ABDO looks forward to being part of this.”

BCLA CLEAR Presbyopia papers will be published in phases online, with the full version of the report due to be printed online by June 2024. All current full BCLA members will receive a copy of the printed report when it’s available.
