Extension of essential care

In light of the College of Optometrists advising a move to amber phase from Monday 15 June 2020, and the General Optical Council’s statement on private eyecare, practices can now deliver routine appointments to private patients.

In a message to members this evening, ABDO said it was awaiting information from NHS England on care for NHS patients in England.

Due to the reduced capacity in practice, ABDO is recommending that practitioners continue to follow the extension of essential care information to meet all patients’ eyecare needs safely until further advice can be provided.

It is expected that NHS England will provide further guidance on Monday 15 June.
