ABDO publishes 2026 Annual Plan

Comprehensive programme of work outlined

ABDO has published its 2026 Annual Plan, which will guide its work over the coming year on behalf of members.

The Plan involves a wide range of activities to enable ABDO to support and represent members, promote awareness of their roles, enable their professional development, and advance the profession as a whole.

ABDO’s priorities this year are to:

  • Show the value of dispensing opticians and contact lens opticians
  • Enable members to develop their roles
  • Improve member services and support

The Plan also outlines outlined a comprehensive programme of work across ABDO’s key priority areas, including:

  • Promoting the findings of the ABDO Pay & Reward Survey, which will provide a comprehensive benchmark for member salaries and benefits, and support members in gaining improved recognition and advancing their careers
  • Showcasing the vital roles played by ABDO members as part of celebrating 100 years of the profession, shining a spotlight on the impact they make every day in practice and across the sector
  • Delivering the ABDO Professional Certificate in Paediatric Eyecare, which covers the latest developments in children’s eyecare, including myopia management, and supports evidence-based practice

During the year, ABDO will also develop a new strategic plan that will guide its work on behalf of members for the three-year period starting in January 2027.

ABDO president, Kevin Gutsell, commented: “As we commemorate the centenary of our profession, we will use this milestone to further enhance awareness and understanding – within the sector, across allied medical disciplines and among patients – of the exceptional expertise and care our members provide each day.”
