ABDO Life Membership awarded

David Kirk receives his award from ABDO president, Daryl Newsome

David Kirk FBDO (Hons) CL has been presented with Life Membership of ABDO in recognition of his major contribution to the Association and the dispensing profession over many years.

In presenting David with his award, ABDO president, Daryl Newsome, remarked on David’s “enormous input and dedication within the Association in your various roles as treasurer of the ABDO Benevolent Fund Management Committee, and a trustee of the ABDO Benevolent Fund”.

David was also recognised for his contributions as a dispensing practical examiner for ABDO, treasurer and organiser of education and social programmes for the former ABDO London area committee, and his promotion of the profession in his role as a past president of the International Opticians Association and a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers.

“Your wise counsel in helping colleagues and friends in optics stands recorded for all to see. You richly deserve the gratitude of the Association, and the award of Life Membership is extended to you with our sincere thanks and respect,” said Daryl.

Expressing his “shock and surprise” to be presented with his award, David said: “As I see it, optics is all about people, the patients, colleagues, students and those who have fallen on hard times. Through ABDO, I have tried to help on all of these fields – and to be recognised for this is really humbling.”
