A volunteer optometrist has handed over an autorefractor to a charity that supports homeless people.

Ross Campbell, optometry director at Specsavers Northallerton, West Yorkshire, gave the equipment to the clinic operated by Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP) in Leeds. The donation was funded by Specsavers.

Ross, who volunteers at the clinic, says ‘It’s useful in our VCHP clinics as it’s great for those patients with particular requirements. It makes their patient journey quicker and less challenging. It also allows the optometrist to spend more time with the patient examining their eye health.’

David Brown, general manager, VCHP, said: ‘Ross started at our Leeds clinic for homeless people in 2022 and then has further supported the clinic with this fantastic donation of equipment. Local practices can help this cause in many different ways so I would encourage them to follow Ross’s lead and they can start by contacting the charity.’
