Kirsteen Newman, head of dispensing advancement at Specsavers, has welcomed the publication ABDO’s new white paper on advancing paediatric vision care.
Authored by Dr Alicia Thompson, ABDO director of research, the white paper sets out evidence-based insights and best practices for dispensing spectacles to children.
“Paediatric dispensing is a specialist area of practice, and it’s encouraging to see this new paper from ABDO reinforcing that important message,” said Kirsteen.
“The work from Dr Alicia Thompson is a valuable contribution – clearly demonstrating that when clinical expertise is combined with thoughtful, child-centred design, there is a real opportunity to improve both adherence and long-term visual outcomes for children.
“At Specsavers, this strongly aligns with our approach. We focus on frames designed specifically for children’s needs, rather than simply scaled-down adult styles. We know that successful outcomes go beyond the prescription alone – fit, comfort, durability and, crucially, ensuring children are happy to wear their glasses every day are all essential.
“Expert dispensing opticians, as part of multi-disciplinary teams in community practices, are an invaluable part to serving this group of patients,” Kirsteen added.
