About us:
The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) is the professional body for dispensing and contact lens opticians in the UK. We have around 8,500 members in the UK and overseas. Our role is to support and represent members, promote awareness of their roles, enable them to develop their careers and advance the profession by developing its evidence base.
ABDO’s role in enabling members to develop their careers starts with providing examinations to enable students to qualify and register as dispensing opticians. In doing so, we work collaboratively with several education institutes, including ABDO College, which is a separate educational charity that was set up by ABDO.
As key area of expertise and focus is to support our members in their continuing professional development. We provide education for ABDO members to enable them to fulfil their regulatory requirements with the General Optical Council and support their professional development. We also support ABDO members in other skills associated with lifelong learning such as professional development planning, reflection, and evidence-based practice.
About the role:
ABDO is looking for a CPD learning manager to join the growing CPD team and welcomes applications from those looking for part-time role (2–3 days per week). This role would suit someone with a strong sector knowledge who have a passion for education and training and supporting others.
You will play a vital role in ensuring ABDO is best placed to serve the needs of our members.
About you
The successful applicant will be enthusiastic about all aspects of continuing professional development. You will be able to effectively use your knowledge, skills, and experience of best practice to contribute to the CPD education delivered to our members. This will include the creation, delivery, and facilitation of all formats of CPD, including assessment setting, online and offline text-based formats and face-to-face interactive formats. An ability to review clinical research, good oral and written communication and facilitation skills and meeting deadlines are essential in this role.
Salary & Benefits
A competitive salary package depending on relevant experience, pro rata for a part time role.
30 days holiday per annum (FTE), plus bank holidays, Pro rata for this part time role.

Working Pattern
This role is home-based which requires flexible working (occasional evenings/weekends) and on occasion requires travel to other ABDO locations and external venues if attendance at a face-to-face meeting is required. Regular working pattern to be agreed with a total of 7 hours per day (expected hours per day for 2/3 days).
