Job description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced Dispensing opticians and Contact lens opticians to join our team as Visiting clinical tutor (VCT) within the optometry department at City, St George’s University of London.
This role involves supervising and supporting 3rd year undergraduate optometry students as they deliver patient care in a professionally supervised environment.
City Sight Clinic is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art teaching facility committed to delivering outstanding optometric education and accessible, high-quality eye care to the local community. Our dynamic teaching model blends academic knowledge with real-world clinical experience, ensuring our students graduate with confidence and competence.
As a Visiting clinical tutor, you will play a key part in shaping the clinical and professional skills of our students. You will:
• Supervise students in specialist dispensing or contact lens clinics
• Provide one-to-one clinical teaching and small group supervision
• Support students in the development of patient management and decision-making skills
• Participate in clinical assessments and student feedback
• Work within a team of highly experienced clinicians with a range of specialisms
We are looking for:
• GOC registered with a minimum of 3 years post-registration clinical experience
• Have an interest in education and student development
• Have experience supporting or supervising students in clinical practice

Approx. £37 per hour
Working hours
9am-5pm, 1 day a week between September to April. Mandatory induction day Tuesday 8th September 2026
