Focalpoint is a busy, trendy independent Opticians in South West London serving a diverse patient base. It has grown into an established practice with a strong contact lens base since opening in 1985.
We are looking for a patient focused dispensing optician who would like to, or is already studying to be a contact lens optician to join our team. We are seeking a candidate who can bring a uniqueness to the role and the drive to give our patients the best in eyecare with a personal flare.
The role is suitable for candidates looking for a full time contract, working Saturdays. We are closed Sundays and Bank Holidays.
We offer comprehensive eye care and stylish eyewear, with an established and busy contact lens clinic. Our practice is a Seiko Lens Specialist, holds Myopia Management accreditation with a wide range of Sports Vision options for our clients. Training in all these areas is available if the candidate does not have extensive or recent experience.
Contact Lenses have always been at the route of our practice and remain a focal area of how we operate. In the history of Focalpoint’ 40 years we have always respected contact lenses as its own specialist topic with it’s own dedicated room. All staff are knowledgeable on the subject and support the CLO closely in their day to day activity. You would be working alongside the current CLO who works part time and is one of the directors. When not in clinic your dispensing skills would be put to work to further support the dispensers. We expect your time would be split 50:50 between the two requirements, however, we would of course ensure that enough hours are being met required for your studies and adapt the diary accordingly.
The role will be for you if:
-you are registered with ABDO as a qualified DO.
-you are studying to be a CLO, would like to start in 2025 or have completed studies and are seeking a pre-reg year.
– You have good communication skills, can understand patient needs and expectations and are genuinely interested in talking with them.
– You like to work in a team and can remain calm in a busy and dynamic environment.
– You’re conscientious – you take care in your work, pay attention to detail and like to get things right, first time, on time, every time.
– You’re interested in developing your skills and specialties to make a positive contribution to our business and your role.
– You are good with patients – capable, confident, polite and have the credibility to assure them they are in good hands. You like to make personal connections with them and give them the time they need without rushing them.
– You enjoy working with patients of all ages and abilities, having a caring and patient disposition.
What do I need to be considered for the role?
– Experience of using optical operating programs, visual field machines and digital ordering systems is heavily desirable.
– An up to date knowledge of lens availability and new products on the market.
– Experience in Myopia Management (desirable)
– Experience in Ortho K (desirable)
– Enjoys working with high quality products and recognises the value of products.
-Knowledge of all major contact lenses manufactured and the confidence to discuss this option with current and potential new wearers.
– The ability to pass a DBS check – this is a requirement for you to work with us as we are a regulated health care business
