About us:
The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) is the professional body for dispensing and contact lens opticians in the UK. We have around 8,000 members in the UK and overseas. Our role is to support and represent members, promote awareness of their roles, enable them to develop their careers and to advance the profession.
ABDO plays a key role in developing and implementing eyecare policy across the UK sector and in ensuring eye care services are designed, commissioned and delivered in a way that embraces the expertise of dispensing opticians. To do this we are involved in a range of organisations that work together to support and deliver the best possible eye care for patients.
About the role:
We are looking for a regional lead for the North of England to support the work of our clinical and policy department and the wider regional team. This role would suit those with an eye sector knowledge who have present or previous experience of local representative eyecare committee’s and a passion to create and support opportunities for our members.
About you
The successful applicant will be a proactive self-starter. You will be using your skills and experience to support members across the North of England, working with the clinical and policy team and collaborating with the wider UK regional lead team. You will be helping shape the policies that drive the advancement of our profession.

Working pattern and remuneration
This role is for up to 1.5 days per month and is home-based. It is ideal for someone looking for flexible working (occasional evenings/weekends) on a contractor basis, with occasional travel to ABDO locations and external venues, if required. The successful candidate will be funded for their time, on receipt of time logs, and necessary expenses will be paid.
