ABDO and ophthalmology provider, Newmedica, have partnered to deliver a new training programme for dispensing opticians.
The inaugural CPD event in the series for ABDO members was held at Newmedica, Bury St Edmunds.
Titled ‘Seeing eye to eye: overcoming challenges in patient care’, the session was delivered by Usman Hussain, a consultant ophthalmologist at Newmedica Suffolk. Thirty-five dispensing opticians attended the session.
“As a leading provider of ophthalmology services to NHS and private patients, the partnership with ABDO forms part of Newmedica’s commitment to training colleagues across the eye health sector,” said Jag Singh, head of clinical proposition at Newmedica.
“We recognise that dispensing opticians play a key role in the cataract journey of patients. So, it’s great to be collaborating with ABDO to deliver this CPD programme for dispensing opticians at Newmedica clinics across England.”
Sue Bennett, ABDO CPD operations manager, said: ‘This three-year agreement is an amazing opportunity for our members to view the state-of-the-art equipment Newmedica have within their practices whilst gaining interactive CPD points.”
Evening tours with CPD will be offered at 15 Newmedica clinics throughout the UK, during 2025-2027.
Members can find details of the 2025 venues by logging in to the ABDO CPD news page.
Upcoming CPD events planned for ABDO registered members include sessions at Newmedica clinics in Oxford, Newcastle, Shrewsbury, and Leicester.
