ABDO has published its position statement on the General Optical Council’s (GOC) CPD consultation, launched at the start of the year.
With members invited to share their feedback on the regulator’s reform proposals by 13 April, the Association will submit its formal response to the GOC by the 19 April closing date.
In its position statement opening, ABDO said it broadly supported modernisation of the GOC CPD system – but had “significant concerns about the potential for the GOC’s proposals to weaken public protection, reduce professional autonomy, rely unduly on employer oversight and encourage inappropriate commercial influence”.
The Association also said there was “a need for a full impact assessment to be carried out before the GOC finalises the proposed changes”.

ABDO members can share their feedback with ABDO by emailing policy@abdo.org.uk with the subject line ‘CPD consultation’ by Monday 13 April.
