SeeAbility is seeking full-time dispensing opticians (DOs) – and sessional optometrists – to join its special schools eyecare team as it expands the service to reach more children in London.
These clinicians will help provide eyecare in special schools, working in a clinically-challenging setting – providing complex, creative and often life-changing support with eyecare and spectacles.
“We are looking for sessional optometrists and full time dispensing opticians to provide excellent eyecare in the special school setting,” said Martyn Howlett, SeeAbility senior dispensing optician (DO clinical lead).
“We will provide full training with an assigned clinical mentor, as well as enrolment on the City, St George’s 15pt Special Schools Eye Care Masters module.
“A vital part of the role will be working as part of the education and health care team around the child to ensure each child or young person – and everyone who supports them – understands their visual abilities, needs and limitations and that these needs are optimally met,” added Martyn.
The charity is looking for full-time DOs to start this summer, and help it to plan and administrate the clinics, and optometrists to start clinics one to five days a week in term time in the new school year from September 2025.
