Myopia factsheet for parents on offer

The British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) has developed patient information to help eyecare professionals educate parents about myopia.

A factsheet and consent form provide key facts and tackle common myths. Childhood myopia is increasing around the world and the age of diagnosis is falling. The patient information explains what myopia is and options including:

  • soft contact lenses – dual-focus and multifocal
  • orthokeratology
  • spectacles.

The consent form outlines the aims of different treatment pathways, the risks and limitations and any further consultations required.

Luke Stevens-Burt, BCLA chief executive, said the resources will “prove invaluable as increasing numbers of eyecare professionals embrace the benefits of myopia management techniques in everyday practice”.

They complement the BCLA’s myopia management certificate, he added.

Krupa Patel, senior manager for myopia management at CooperVision’s European professional services team, who supported the project, said: “It is vital that as a profession we are giving out clear and consistent messaging to patients.

“The factsheet and consent form will allow a uniform approach, ensuring patients are well-informed and fully understand the benefits of this treatment pathway.”
