New WCSM Master installed

Fiona Anderson

Dispensing optician Fiona Anderson has been installed as Master of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (WCSM).

A past president of ABDO and the International Opticians Association, Fiona has served on committees for both the European Council of Optometry and Optics and the European Academy of Optometry and Optics. She has also served as a practical examiner and speaker across the world.

Fiona worked for an independent group of opticians for 25 years before becoming a partner in two practices. She has been freelancing since 2023, and still spends several days a month in practice as a locum.

She said:“I feel both honoured and privileged to take office as Master of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers.

“As a Livery company, our home is in the City of London, but we are proudly open to members from across the UK and further afield. I am a living embodiment of this, as probably the first Master of the Company to be commuting from Aberdeenshire.

“In my year as Master, I will do all I can to advance our mission: supporting better vision for all. I particularly look forward to leading the Company as we prepare to celebrate our 400th anniversary in 2029.”

The previous Master, optometrist Mike Harris, is now Deputy Master. Optometrist David Baker is now Upper Warden, and Professor Leon Davies, Renter Warden.
