Charity celebrates volunteers week

Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP) is marking National Volunteers Week, 1-7 June, with thanks to patrons and a cry for more people to get involved.

“What better time to send a heartfelt message to all of our wonderful supporters – thank you from everyone at VCHP,” said volunteer operations manager, Helen Harms. “We are supported by an army of unpaid optometrists, dispensing opticians, clinic managers and fundraisers who have worked so hard to re-open the regional clinics after the pandemic.  With homeless figures sadly increasing year on year we are so grateful for the support of the profession and the generous donations from the optical industry.”

VCHP is in urgent need of optometrists for its Birmingham, Exeter, Gloucester, Leeds and Manchester clinics. Dispensing opticians, clinic managers and assistants are needed in some centres. “Now up and running again and serving local communities, VCHP clinics rely on volunteers and we would love to hear from anyone who has a half a day a month to spare.  It is a very rewarding way to utilise all that training, and to reach out to people who are so in need of help,” added Helen.
