New chair for Moorfields eye hospital

Laura Wade-Gery will join Moorfields in April 2023Laura Wade-Gery, chair of NHS Digital, will move to Moorfields in April 2023. 

Current post-holder Tessa Green will step down in December. Laura said: “I am honoured to be joining a world-renowned organisation and its truly exceptional staff. With the roll out of a new strategy for excellence underway, I am looking forward to playing my part in helping drive forward digital innovation to help Moorfields continue to deliver world leading eye care.

Dr Martin Kuper, chief executive, said: “We are delighted that Laura will be joining  at such an important time. She brings substantial experience in leading large-scale organisations, with a clear emphasis on using digital, data and technology to transform services. I am certain that her expertise will ensure Moorfields advances at the very cutting edge of eyecare treatment, research and education.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to Tessa Green, who will be missed terribly by all of us here. I would like to thank her personally for her support, and for her dedication and drive in helping to shape the legacy of Moorfields.”

Laura has held non-executive and trustee roles in the public and private sectors, including at NHS England, British Land plc, Legal and General and Britten Pears Arts. She was chief executive of Tesco.com between 2003 and 2011 and an advisor to the Government Digital Service from 2012 to 2016. Ros Given-Wilson, vice-chair, will serve as interim chair when Tessa Green leaves.
