Freedom of Information Act 2000 – Model publication scheme
ABDO, AOP, The College of Optometrists and FODO have issued a document which complies with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act for all practices to have a publication scheme. The information commissioner has written a publication scheme which has been approved for opticians and practices are required to have this approved scheme.

Practitioners may download the scheme below and personalise it for their practice by amending those sections printed in blue. This document is approved for use in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Optometry Scotland has produced a scheme which has been approved for use in Scotland. Click on the link below to download it.

All practices must have a publication scheme – by law.

Domiciliary providers may have to make further amendments to this document because of the different ways in which they practise. Making such amendments as are necessary should not be onerous. This scheme is approved for a four year period (until 31 May 2014).
